A recent trend, well a recent publicly acknowledged trend, is the vegan footballer. I spent last weekend with one, and well its actually not that easy, the diary bit gets me.
But it’s an interesting thought, to live on natural plant based food, Bellerin, Smalling, Defoe, Aguero, Messi, are the plant powered heroes of the game. Pasta and chicken is the old fashioned football diet and fuel from meat protein was always seen as important for recover.
I think the original vegans were animal lovers, but I also think that stereotype is diminishing, and it is now commonly accepted that a plant based diet can be healthy lifestyle. It’s also better for the environment to have plant based foods.
Hector Bellerin has said he felt he quickly felt better after becoming a vegan. He said his ankles stopped becoming inflamed and he felt he was recovering quicker between games.
When I was reading articles on vegan players the common feeling was that the energy levels of players were through the roof and I suppose having a natural diet would make you feel revitalised. Better than the Big Mac with Bacon……
Forest Green Rovers are owned by an Eco friendly millionaire and he is pushing he club towards being a vegan only football club. Apparently even the fans half time cuppa can’t be served with cows milk.
I can definitely see the health benefits and have had some nice tasty vegan meals, maybe we’ll all be vegans in the future?
